I've always loved Bulova, an American company of great repute. It was founded by Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova and based in New York City, where the famous Bulova Observatory was located, high above a skyscraper on Fifth Avenue. Like Gruen, it also had a factory in (Bienne) Switzerland, established in 1912 and dedicated to the production of watch components and their assembly into jeweled movements. The firm is known for its aggressive advertising campaigns and for being the first to advertise on radio with an announcer stating "B U L O V A ... 8:00p.m., Bulova Watch Time." I am pleased to offer for sale a original vintage timepiece from the Bulova firm, a long and curved men's 10kt Yellow Gold filled "PRESIDENT" model that dates to 1936 and is in excellent condition. There were a number of President models over the years, beginning in the late 1920s and continuing on to the late 1940s. While they were in a variety of designs they all had one thing in common being "Flagship" models and typically featuring the company's finest wristwatch mechanism (in this case a 21 jewel, USA made example). This President is also unique for being a dress model (without sub-seconds) and featuring a dial with elegant raised gold bar markers instead of numbers. Triple-signed (dial, case twice & mechanism), it measures 45.6mm lug tip to lug tip and 20mm in width (22mm with original, unmarked crown). This works out to be just over 1-3/4 inches long by of an inch wide, without the winding crown. It is powered by its original 21 Jewel, Bulova USA mechanism that has been fully serviced, clean, oiled and timed to ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. The gold, enamel dial is the original and is in excellent shape. It features a crisp s , raised gold hour markers and original gold hands. Signed BULOVA in raised gold lettering below the 12 marker. The absence of a seconds dial or hand makes this more of a "dress" model where time is important but not the exact second. The solid glass crystal is in excellent condition with one small scratch you can only see with a jeweler loop. The two-piece case is 10 Karat Yellow Gold Filled and in excellent to mint condition, stepped on the sides and truly without any wear whatsoever. The original (correctly unsigned) yellow gold finished winding crown is in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly. Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is gently curved and finely brush (satin) finished. It is in excellent mint condition and is stamped "Bulova - 10k Gold Filled" at the edge with case number 6328843. Peeking inside I discover a clean, original Twenty One jewel manual wind movement, signed Bulova Watch Co., USA 21 Jewels, Adjusted [Caliber] 6AE. There is also a "Arrow" date code stamp indicating that this watch was produced in 1937. The inside case lid is stamped BULOVA FIFTH AVE NEW YORK. This fully serviced (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted with the original bracelet, but will provide a a new black alligator (grain) calf leather strap on request. All in all a vintage "President" model in pristine, ready to wear in show off condition an Art Deco elongated Tank that I like quite a bit.
