Rolex Yacht-Master 40mm watch, new 2012 model, round stainless steel case (40mm diameter, 13mm thickness) with shoulders to protect the screw-down Triplock winding crown, new bi-directional time-lapse rotatable platinum bezel, new adjustable stainless steel Oysterlock bracelet with Easylink extension link, sunray blue dial with luminous hour markers, date calendar at 3 o'clock, 31 jewel Caliber 3135 self-winding Oyster Perpetual chronometer movement, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, water-resistant to 100 meters.Introduced in 1992, the Rolex Yacht-Master was the first luxury watch that combined the ruggedness of a sports watch with the elegance of a luxury watch. In 1994, Rolex released a lady's model (29mm diameter) and a midsize model (35mm diameter), which was the first time Rolex had ever issued a smaller size professional watch. All three sizes were only available in steel/platinum at that time. Then in 1996, Rolex introduced two-tone (stainless steel and 18kt yellow gold) to the ladies and midsize line. However, the mens 40mm did not get the two-tone model until 2005, at which point they named the two-tone combination "Rolesor". And in 1997, Rolex released the Yacht-Master in "Rolesium", a term patented by Rolex in 1932 which gives the Yacht-Master a stainless steel and platinum appearance. This model is also known as the Platinum Yacht-Master and when first introduced (and for many years later) sold for a premium on the private market (similar to the stainless steel Daytona) due to its scarcity and high demand. Several celebrities favor the steel/platinum Yacht-Master model including former "Two and a Half Men" star, Charlie Sheen, and Hulk Hogan.
