Art Deco Silver Necklace Viking Craft Sterling Floral Vintage 1940s Jewelry Viking Craft jewelry has become an obsession of mine. It is not always easy to find. And it is so exquisite and beautifully designed. This exceptional necklace continues to intrigue me as I handle it, and put into words its beautiful attributes. When I look at this design, I think of Japanese chrysanthemums. Long petals, each one carefully arranged, and grown as an exercise in horticultural excellence. Each floral center is high style Art Deco, with a circular cross hatching representing the flower’s reproductive parts, and a design focal point with graduated droplets. "A symbol of the sun, the Japanese consider the orderly unfolding of the chrysanthemum’s petals to represent perfection, and Confucius once suggested they be used as an object of meditation. It is also a symbol of a long and healthy life." (Teleflora) The necklace is in excellent condition, and properly marked “Viking Craft U.S. Pat. Off. Sterling†on the plaque next to its extension chain. The spring ring clasp is also marked “STERLING.†This added extender is age appropriate, and may be original from the Albert Horwig Company store in New York City, as it has a similar quality, patina, and style. It could, of course, be removed if a shorter length is desired. It has a substantial feel in hand at nearly 2 oz. of sterling silver (see below for actual size and weight). It is an impressive vintage 1940’s necklace from the late Art Deco period. This item will be presented in a tarnish resistant pouch and gift boxed.
