Antique 1884 ELGIN 14k Gold Ladies Hunting Case Pocket Watch Bird Blue Green Floral Inlaid Works > Exquisite Elgin ladies' hunting case pocket watch > Movement is inscribed: "Warranted 14k U.S. Assay, C.W. MFG. CO., 48936" and "Elgin Natl. Watch Co. Patent Pinion. 1667289" > The latter inscribed serial number, 1667289, dates the watch to 1884 > Outside of the gold case back has a beautiful inscribed bird with outstretched wings, surrounded by a dainty floral garland with inlaid blue and green detail > Outside of the gold case front is similarly inlaid and decorated, with a gold emblem at the center that would be perfect for a monogram, as no monogram is there now > Watch hinges all work, smoothly and securely > Watch dial has a white background with black Roman numerals > Watch has an inset sweep second hand dial at the 6 o'clock position > The exposed portion of the dial measures 1-3/8 inches across > Watch is mechanical, and meant to be wound once a day > Watch is a lever set type, which is set by gently extending a small lever arm that is near the 5 o'clock position, then using the crown (winder at the top) to set the hands to the desired time, and then gently pushing the small lever arm back into position within the case > Watch cover is easily opened by gently raising the crown, which releases a small catch, and lifting the case open. Similarly, to close the case, one gently raises the crown, closes the case, then releases the crown. This way, one avoids unnecessary wear of the cover catch by "snapping" the case shut. > Watch weighs 2.6 ounces CONDITION: Watch has been carefully kept over the years, and is in excellent condition, mechanically and appearance-wise. Watch has been set, wound and tested, and works great. The case hinges are all in excellent working condition. Watch crystal is intact and clear with no scratches. Gold case is in excellent condition as well, and the blue and green inlay detail is still vivid. Watch face has a few tiny hairlines near the 7 o'clock (VII) numeral. Ships worldwide, insured.
