Benrus Watch Company was an American Company founded in New York in 1921 by three brothers who were Romanian immigrants. The name Benrus was a combination of Benjamin Lazrus first and last names, hence BEN-jamin laz-RUS. As far as I can tell, this watch is from the 50s-mainly because of the "Water Beauty" label which seems to be associated with watches from the 50s. The watch itself is simple. Silver metal, simple face, nice numbers and hands. It is special because of it's waterproof nature. If it is like most other Belrus watches, it has swiss movement. You have to open the back to find out, which I'm assuming is a "no-no" with the waterproof seal and me being a non-professional. The back of the watch says "anti-magnetic; water resistant; GRUEN" It is a wind up watch which probably explains why it's still working-you didn't have to get the back off to replace batteries. It does need to be wound daily. It works well, although I didn't keep an eye on how well it kept time for more than an hour or so. What really caught my eye is the super cool blue plastic box. It's two-tone, has got the neat cross on top. The box itself it worth quite a bit. I also have the original outter cardboard box. In this box there is a original "Benrus Guarantee" paper telling you that if you bought it from an approved dealer you were guarenteed it was free of defects and such. The box is in great condition. The watch is in average condition. I tried to get some really good closeups of the watch face. See pictures 3-5. It does show it's age. I'm guessing a qualified jeweler could work his magic and get it looking good again.
