Lovely old chain circa 1890 in solid 9 or low 10 karat gold for a muff chain or watch or chatelaine or locket. The ornate chain has a kind of textured anchor link and is very pretty and very sturdy. It's a light rose gold like the light tint commonly found in Victorian times and it gleams and shines. It is getting harder and harder to find these old gold chains, as most are either more expensive than I can afford to purchase or they've been melted as scrap gold. Karat: This has been gently acid tested for 10k and sometimes it is 10k and sometimes it's a bit less than 10k. My jeweler tells me this is a common feature to Victorian gold. This is solid gold, but it is somewhere between 9 and 10 k (also called Low 10 Karat). Weight: 6.93 grams Length: The doubled portion of the chain is 28 inches. The Y hangs down 5 3/8. The chain is about 2mm wide. There's an old nickel to help visualize the size. Condition: Some minimal surface wear visible under magnification, and solder marks on one link at the Y where the drop was connected to the doubled chain. The bolt ring spring clasps works and holds, but it is over 120 years old and a mechanical piece, so there is always the chance that a spring clasp will wear old after some time. Otherwise pretty much perfect and strong and like the day it was made some 120 years ago. Please let me know if you would like more photos or closeups of the links.
