I'm pleased to offer this sophisticated 1950s Lord Elgin Direct Read Rectangular watch, also commonly referred to as "Jump Hour". This Elgin is quite different in design, gold filled case, and the enamel painted discs which carry the Egyptian Revival-Style hours and minutes chapters. The time appears digitally through a triangular window at the 6:00 position It is in EXCELLENT condition and rather unique with it's yellow gold filled case in the style of A JUMP HOUR making this majestic wristwatch which by the way is in the Watch Collector's book by Gilbert & Shugart The "Lord" in Lord Elgin refers to the model being from Elgin's premium product line. Most Lords were equipped with higher-end, higher-jeweled (typically 21) movements and gold filled cases. Most standard Elgin models sold with lesser movements (typically 17 to 19 jewels) and base metal cases. The Lord Elgin Jump Hour "Elvis Tank Watch" is the most collectible Elgin Direct Read due to endorsement by the Elvis Presley and just because of this association these watches reach ridiculous prices. The 719 caliber is the highest grade from the American-Made Elgin Direct Read family with 21 jewels and 6 factory adjustments. Though engineered and offered by watch manufacturers as early as several decades prior, as the space age arrived, there was a resurgence of interest in this form of mechanical digital display as a way to tell time in a "contemporary" or maybe 'futuristic" fashion. As the minutes wheel rotates to its printed zero marker, the coordinated hours disk instantly click-moves or "jumps" one hour unit. Elgin; Circa 1957 STYLE: The length lug-to-lug is 36 mm, width 26 mm without a crown. CASE: The yellow 14K gold-filled case features a rectangular shape, curved lugs and snap back. A dedication inscribed on the back "Larry from Bob" DIAL: This white two-tone dial displays Arabic numerals, hour and 5-minute tracks, direct read. MOVEMENT: Manual 21-jewel movement with lever escapement is stem set and signed. The Elgin comes with a NOS vintage brown leather band. It's been cleaned and oil and is running strong. This watch looks great on the wrist and will absolutely attract alot of attention and interest. If you collect Elgin watches, you don't want to miss this one.
