The Accutron line was introduced by Bulova in 1960, and was the first electronic wristwatch ever made. The Accutron represented a new advanced timekeeping technology utilizing tuning forks, which were more accurate and would run without mechanical winding. Although this new tuning fork technology would be superceded by the advent of quartz technology less than a decade later, there were about 5 million Accutrons produced, of which 1.5 million were powered by the original calibre 214 tuning
