The new Cuvette from Stuhrling Original expresses elegance and grace personified in a mechanical automatic timepiece. Flaunting one of Stuhrling Originalandapos;s most exquisite dialsand#44; the predominant element endowing such charm is the captivating gracile case. Constructed of solid 316L surgical grade stainless steeland#44; the slender bowl-like housing measures an astonishingly scant ten millimeters from the crystal on the top of the case to the crystal window on the bottom! The 10mm thickness (or should we say slimness?) is by far the thinnest mechanical automatic timepiece ever offered by Stuhrling Original. With its unique shapeand#44; whereby the case widens from bottom to top (like a bowl or stadium)and#44; the Cuvette gives the illusion of being even skinnier than it already is! And speaking of illusionand#44; this astonishing case creates a misbelief that it is even larger than its full 40mm size! While 40mm cases rule the day in watch-making as the full size for menand#44; the trend within the last couple of years has gravitated toward andquot;oversizedandquot; cases going north of 40mm. And while Stuhrling Originalandapos;s gallery is flush with such jumbo timepiecesand#44; part of the allure of the Cuvette is owing to its abnormally thin bezel. At less than 2mm in widthand#44; the rounded polished convex bezel allows for an even larger view of the dial than would ordinarily be seen in a 40mm timepiece! The Cuvette plays like a 42 or 43mm timepiece in its formal 40mm case. So in effectand#44; you have a watch that appears larger and thinner than it already is! (If only we could appear taller and slimmer!) The look of the Cuvette is positively perplexing and it is attributable to its innovative case. On its faceand#44; the dial-work for which Stuhrling Original has become known for is championed on the Cuvette. Featuring a swirled and wavy sun-ray designand#44; the dial has been hydraulically guilloched by vintage German machines with each and every dial having been struck more than thirty times! The small seconds sub-dial exhibits a super fine record finish and the Arabic numeral markers have all been embossed and lapped as has the frame for the date aperture at the three oandapos;clock position. The circumference of the stunning dial presents a printed railway minute track. Complementing the sophisticated look of the Cuvette are the diamond-cut dauphine style hands and the ultra-slim andquot;Tandquot; style knurled edge crown measuring 6.0 millimeters in diameter and a miniscule 2.0mm in width with 36 teeth and adorned with the Stuhrling signature andquot;Sandquot; logo. The engine that drives the Cuvette is the faithful Stuhrling caliber ST-90018 movement. Beating at 21and#44;600 vibrations per hour with 36 hours of autonomyand#44; this 20-jewel mechanical automatic movement delivers the simple time with hoursand#44; minutes and an offset second hand sub dial with a quick-set date complication at the three oandapos;clock position. This trusty little machine is clearly visible through the 316L surgical grade stainless steel screwed-in case-back and is gloriously decorated with Cotes de Geneveand#44; blued steel screws and its Damier finished rotor. The chic Cuvette is water resistant to 165 feet and is mounted on a 22-millimeter wide genuine leather strap with a water-repellant liner.
