An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when one celestial object moves into the shadow of another. And the Stuhrling Original Eclipse Series has captured that phenomena right on the face of this stunning and graceful collection. With two dials intersecting within the large round shaped case the Eclipse Series pays tribute to the heavens above. And in the lexicon of eclipses regardless of whether referring to a lunar or solar eclipse they are always gauged by Greenwich Mean Time. Another term for GMT is Universal Time (or UT). The Stuhrling Original Eclipse II offers one of the most ingenious Universal Time indications in the form of a twenty-four hour indication whereby the twenty-four hours have been sub-divided into three 8-hour segments (rather than the customary two 12-hour segments). But the real genius in the complication is the manner in which the indication is actually executed. An arced sub-dial aperture in the main dial displays the three 8-hour segments in three layers fanned out with the numbers 1 through 8 being the smallest and displayed on the inner most positioning and the 17 through 24 being the largest and shown on the outer most position. Inside the Eclipse II there runs a rotating axis which cleverly has three different lengths of hands and points appropriately to the proper row of 8-hour segments as the time of day advances. With each pass of the 8-hours the next hand to appear gets larger so that it will point to the correct row. The Eclipse II has a larger inner dial representing the traditional main dial (with hours and minutes) and a proportionately smaller dial traversing the larger one and displaying the seconds for a clever and stylistic display of time. This out of the world edition from Stuhrling Original features a quick-set date complication in addition to the very unique 24-hour complication. The hydraulically embossed design of horizontal stripes further enhances the styling of the Eclipse II. The Eclipse II is encased in a large 44.5 millimeter round case made of the only the finest 316L surgical grade stainless steel and you wont be able to keep your eyes off the high polished extra wide steeply beveled bezel. The sharp angle of the ring around the case is complemented marvelously with the screwed-down gasket style faceplate which frames the inner dials and furthers the notion of the planetary system. With Krysterna crystals (front and back) and a knurled edge pull out crown and a decorated screw-in exhibition case back the Eclipse II is water resistant to 50 meters. The Eclipse II is powered by a 22-jewel mechanical automatic movement which is fully decorated with Ctes de Geneve and a Damier finished rotor with the Stuhrling signature emblem. A 20 millimeter wide alligator embossed genuine French leather strap with ample padding holds this graceful timepiece to your wrist and the strap comes equipped with a water repellant lining and quick release pins for easy interchangeability. The Eclipse II is finished appropriately with a push-button dual deployant clasp. Despite NASAs warnings you wont want to take your eyes of this eclipse!.
