Finally the limited edition will be debuting in Spring 2012.Its concept is to render visible the essence of Eco-Drive powered by light, and cast it into perfection.That concept carries through in the design of the watch face and sides. In contrast to earlier Eco-Drive models, in which light is captured through the dial, the light-receiving solar cell that surrounds the watch face and charges its batteries established a radically new concept in watch design. It dramatically transforms the sides of the watch into a significant design element.Seen head-on, the design appears simple. Its unique features are revealed when the watch is observed from an angle. It is only then that the ring-shaped solar cell, surrounded by a crystal ring, that circle the face becomes visible. The hollow lugs are a necessary design feature to let more light into the solar cell.Seen from above, the indexes appear to be simple shapes. From the side, they are revealed to be Arabic numerals. CITIZEN’s continued efforts have resulted in perfection in watch face design, features and details. In 2012, CITIZEN is proud to present the limited edition of 250 pieces worldwide.Turning convention on its head, Eco-Drive RING captures light not from the face but from the sides of the case, turning a once-peripheral component into a centrepiece of the watch’s design. A radically new concept in watchmaking is born, fusing light power generation with design elegance.The design demonstrates the considerable thought given by CITIZEN to the side view. Seen head-on, the design appears simple. Its unique features are revealed when the watch is observed from an angle.The side of the case, with a modern, architectural motif.The ring-shaped solar cell, encompassing the sides of the case, is embellished with a coin-like edge, overlaid with curved sapphire glass. Previously hidden away inside the case, the light-catching structure now takes its place as a signature design element. The distinguishing hollowed lugs design is born out of necessity, to maximize light absorption from the sides.The stylish, high-quality finished dialThe dial features the three-dimensional hour markers that appear as simple bars when viewed from above, but reveal themselves to be the Arabic numerals when seen from an angle. Clear parts embedded with the sub dials at 6 and 12 o’clock to create a transparent, three-dimensional appearance.The uniquely designed moon phase at the 6 o’clock sub dial is indicated by covering and uncovering the moon by the shadow casted by the sun.The pearl-coated, blue-grey strapThe pearl-coated, blue-grey strap coordinates beautifully with the silver tone of the dial for a feel of freshness And brightness, and is finished with crocodile leather, thick-stitched for a solid, high-quality look and feel.
