The most striking thing about this lovely watch is the Art Deco two-tone dial, of gold and pale champagne. The dial is finished with arabic numeral markers, punctuated with red line markers, and a subsiduary seconds hand at the 6 o'clock position. It really has been protected well from the elements, and relatively speaking looks very clean & fresh for its age. If I was being critical, I would say there are one or two very small patches here & there of extremely mild wear, but this is an 80 year old watch, and to the naked eye, the dial does look superb overall. The Movement The movement is protected by a clip-down inner casing (a casing within a casing, if you like), of stainless steel. Internally, the movement is well-preserved 15 jewel movement, adjusted to 2 positions. Most importantly, the watch is still running beautifully, and is keeping very good time. The watch is fitted in a stainless steel 'cushion' casing which measures approx. 30mm in diameter. The casing comprises of one-piece closed (solid/trench style) lugs, and a circular clip-down back. The Rone watch company was founded in Bole, Switzerland, in the 1910s and they were pioneers in the 'modern concept' of converting fob watches to wrist watches. They made trench watches during WW2 and this 'trench style' solid lugs Sportsman's watch, in 1933, possibly their most iconic watch. Rone watches seem to have closed their doors in the 70s, with the demand for digital, making their vintage watches all the more collectible.
