Freedom of movement, the quickening pace of life... The world is speeding up, carrying time along with it. It is 1904 and Louis Cartier gives the timepiece a major boost by creating one of the first ever wristwatches. It is designed for a man, the aviator Santos- Dumont, who was keen to be able to tell the time in the most convenient way possible. That is how, from the original pocket version, the watch became an accessory that is visible to all, displayed on the wrist, a jewel that is the result of thorough research. A geometric form, rounded corners, harmoniously shaped joints that converge towards the strap, the Santos de Cartier watch is an early expression of the watch that emerges from the Cartier workshops, first in 1912 and then in 1978, when Cartier makes the bold move of fitting it with a bracelet made of gold and steel.
