What makes this Panerai PAM 23 so incredibly rare and unique is that it was only made in 1,500 individually numbered pieces for the 1998-1999 production year. B-series marked the second year of worldwide Panerai distribution. The tritium dial as indicated by 'T SWISS T' stamping on dial below 6:00 shows that only a few transitional B series PAM29 and PAM23 models used tritium luminescence on their dials and hands. The center sweep seconds only found on A-B-C series GMT and Power Reserve models, and the engraved 24 hour bezel only made for PAM23 and PAM29 models for A and B series production. The PAM23 GMT features a smooth black dial whereas the PAM29 GMT features what is referred to as 'Tuxedo Dial" - vertical striping or textured ribbing across dial. Many collectors prefer cleaner look of the smooth black dial found on the PAM23.
